TVM

I auditioned for the Vagina Monologues on Monday… and I got  in! Yippee! The monologue I am doing is called the Flood. I play a 72-year-old woman who isn’t very happy to have someone trying to interview her about her “down-there”. I am so excited for rehersals to start! Everyone who I met at the auditions are so awesome, and the play itself is so empowering.

TVM will be playing on Feb. 6 @ 7pm at the Harr, the theatre at Centre for the Arts. Tickets are $10, and the proceeds go to the women of the Republic of the Congo and Prostitution Awarness in Edmonton. If you are in the city then I hope to see you there!

That’s all….

Holiday Hangover

It’s back to school time kids! I kicked ass on my finals (well, I dunno about that English midterm…. we shall see. Hmmmm) and I went home and ate and did nothing as long as I could stand it. The whole familia was over, including Greg and Meredith and their dog Fortress. And then New Years came and went, and now that it’s 2009, I can’t believe how much I have changed in the last year. Case in point – my hair!

Jan. 2008 - This didn't last very long, to the dismay of my dad.

April 2008 - It's getting shorter!

May 2008 - Even shorter!

Dec. 2008 - This is probably the shortest my hair has been since I was 14.

It’s actually probably even shorter now than in that last picture. I kind of miss my long hair. It was nice to be able to just throw it up into a ponytail. Now I actually have to do it. Oh well, I really like my hair how it is. I’m sure I’ll grow it out again – I swore to myself that I’d never cut it short again, and look what I did!

In other news, I’m back in Edmonton and am going to class in an hour or so, but it’s English. Still, I’m happy to see my friends. I can’t wait to start my new classes (even though I have 3 8am classes – Monday, Thursday, Friday).

I should probably try to finish Surfacing

This was a weird post.

Oh Shit.

I’m sick!!! On finals week, of all weeks, I get sick. Boo. Mother Nature, your timing is crap.

I just wrote my English midterm. It went fairly well, except for the fact that I’m crap at analysing literature and finding the theme. Luckily, it’s only worth 10% of my final mark. Phew.

I’m just biding my time until I can catch the bus back to res.

I have nothing going on tomorrow, a write-to-deadline on Friday, and then a weekend to chill (possibly with Thayne?? or at the illScarlett concert.). Research Skills exam is on Monday. Courtney & Megan said theirs was easy, but they have a different teacher than me. I am a little nervous for that test because we haven’t had one in that class yet and we only have 10% of our mark in that class. Urg.

7:44 a.m. and Twilightness

Oh glorious Tuesday! Up at 5:30, bus at 7:15. class at 8:00. Whoopee!

I don’t even know when I updated last, and I’m too lazy to check. So, deal. 😀

So I’m back on the Twilight bandwagon. But as I see it, it’s not like Hemingway or Hardy or anything serious or with a deep meaning. It’s just something to get my mind away from school work when I’ve been working super-hard.

I saw the movie this weekend. Again, it was good, but it was missing important points. Like the Cullens’ back stories. That was my favourite part in the book, and they cut it out! But I love Kristen Stewart. She’s so normal looking.

Ugh, it’s like, ten to eight. I should probably get my ass to class.

SKREEEETCH.

And so ends my life.

Ok, maybe I am over-exaggerating. But it is slightly scary to hear truck tires squealing. Especially when you didn’t grow up in a traffic-heavy area. I could jay-walk in Kindersley and stop in the middle of the street to write and novel and not get hit. Not to mention the farm, where you could sit on the road and have a nap and no one would notice. Ah, the safety that is rural Saskatchewan.

I was crossing the pedestrian crosswalk with some friends today after school. One car had already stopped for us (there are no lights – very dangerous) and I was leadin’ the pack, doin’ my thing when I hear the low, evil rumble of a jacked-up truck. VROOOM GRRRGRRRGRRR. Immediately after I heard the SKREEEETCH and the SQEEEEEEEEAL of Buddy’s over-sized tires. Dude didn’t really come that close to me (he was about 2 feet or so from the crosswalk) but still. They need lights there goddamnit, especially at dark.

I had also gotten out of the way (maybe not jumped back. I call it the cautionary lean.) so I wasn’t in any real danger. In hindsight, I am glad that Buddy didn’t get out of his truck and try to hurt me.

After I quickly made sure that I didn’t do anything embarassing (because I am sure I could have topped almost getting hit) I went on my merry way.

I’m sure Buddy went home and told everyone how he almost hit some kid.

Yikes.

So, remember to look both ways and shoot off traffic flares when crossing Edmonton streets in the dark.

I disappeared. Oops.

Right. Well it’s been a few weeks since I’ve updated. I’ve been busy with school and stuff (which is a lame excuse but completley valid)

So, what has happened since I came back from Van? Halloween, and a week off from school where I got to go home top the list. Other than that I bummed around doing nothing.

For Halloween I went out with Vince, Kelsey and Kim trick or treating (shame) and then we went to Ceili’s. Good times. I love that pub- it is sweet and has a good location (right across from res).

On Thursday Nov. 6 I went home!!! YAY! I hadn’t seen anyone since August, so it was pretty awesome. Surprised Donna, got to eat some freaking awesome food (thanks Mom!) and just hang out. Woop!

So now I’m back to the old grindstone. illScarlett is coming to town in December – I’m gonna try to interview them. Courtney says she’d go to the concert with me, which rocks. More to come on that.

I need to start on my research project – I’m doing research to see if growing up in a rural or urban setting determines your social skills.

I am hungry – going to eat some of the food Mom sent home with me.

I’m still tired from this weekend.

In one word: AWESOME.

Saw Mary and Kelsea and Keri of the Encounters crew (woo woo), met a whole bunch of people, and there was a 40+ person party in a tiny lil hotel room.

Again, awesome.

Pictures are on Facebook.

This was a pathetic update. Oh well.

I Hurt…. MUST Have Been A Good Show

Ok, so here’s a breakdown of my night last night (yes, I probably should be studying, but this is important :D)

Oh the joy that is Matt Mays + El Torpedo

First, the friend I was going with couldn’t go, so I was debating on not going either. After some convincing from Tara, Caitlin and Meredith, I decided to go anyway. I didn’t want to waste my $30 ticket, and seriosuly, these guys have inspired some of my best fiction writing. So I went via bus and I found the place at around 7:45, and waiting in the freezing cold until 8:15 (doors were supposed to open at 8, but oh well), but I was 3rd in line.

Once we got in I milled around and went to the front, dead center. An hour and a half later the Arkells went on. They were supposed to go on at 8, a security guard said, but I guess they just…. well, didn’t. The Arkells were pretty good, and I’d probably listen to their album just to see what they sound like when the lead singer’s voice is present (the guy had “blown his load” the night before”).

And then, I heard the buzzing that is the intro to “Building a Boat”. Gradually the band came on, with Matt appearing all in white (complete with white Converse high tops…. I was close enough to tell that he wasn’t wearing socks. Ew.) with one of the most beautiful guitars I’ve seen. The people near me were a bunch of rowdy drunk guys, and they kept screaming “Matt F***ing Mays!”, “Cocaine Cowgirl” and “Stand Down At Sundown”. Right in my ear. Beautiful. And then when they finally played CC, (which I saw coming because I could read the set list)

So of course, being right up front I got smashed into the security gate and now I’m stiff as hell, but no worries, I survived (except now I have Tara’s cold….. blech). I met a girl from rez and her friend (yes Meredith, you were right) and we got a taxi home with two other women who live around the same area, which was nice. Between the 5 of us, it was only about $5 each.

I was going to go backstage (which I wish I tried to do now, of course) but I was so sore and I wanted to stay with the girls, so I decided not to)

So that’s my crazy night, and I survived! 😀
