Laurie Marie Thinks

Bio

Laurie Callsen was one of six graduates from Westcliffe Composite School’s class of 2008 in Marengo, Saskatchewan. Now a second-year Journalism student at MacEwan, she is currently the News Editor for Intercamp. In her downtime she is an alternative-folk musician who plays guitar and mandolin.

An over-organized 19-year-old, Callsen enjoys colour-coding agendas, arranging pencils and alphabetizing her books. Her pet peeves include improper grammar, large crowds (thanks to growing up in Flaxcombe, a town of 60 people) and wire coat hangers.

Her favourite journalism task is proofreading and copy-editing, and her least-favourite task is photography, much to her surprise. After journalism school she plans to find an internship in Nanaimo, Victoria, Vancouver or Ottawa (perhaps even returning to Saskatchewan) to write hard news and health stories for a daily.

Some of her first interviews with famous (or semi-famous) Canadians include Rick Mercer, Andy Patil of Matt Mays + El Torpedo, and Stacie Mistysyn and Amanda Stepto from Degrassi.
